Need a break? We understand that caregiving is an around-the-clock job. With all the tasks demanded of a dedicated care provider, a little relief is often necessary. That’s where CAU’s Respite Services come in — our DDD-approved, fee-for-service program offers short-term, out-of-home support for adults (21+) with disabilities when you need us. We tailor our services according to the individual’s needs to give you peace of mind.
Our three-bedroom, accessible co-ed respite home sits on a private, tree-lined street and is equipped with a backyard patio for outdoor enjoyment. Our recreation activities are also available to respite members during their stay.
Care can be delivered in multiple periods, including a partial hour, hourly, daily without overnight or daily with overnight. Services are available for purchase through the Supports Program via the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Individuals must be enrolled in either CPP or the Supports Program.
Our residential staff receive advanced training to support complex medical and behavioral needs, including:
- Diabetes management and insulin administration
- Medication management
- Seizure management
- Hoyer lifts and transfers
- Positive behavior supports
- CPR and First Aid
- Crisis intervention
- Emergency response
We even offer a member-run chat center, where residential members can call to speak with peers about agency news, events, and information. Newcomers to our residential programs receive an official welcome from their friendly Chat Center peers and a guided introduction to CAU. The Chat Center also functions as a computer lab and social lounge where members can come and go as they please.
