Volunteer Opportunities

Americans want to make a valuable impact in the community.

"Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

What Is Volunteerism?

Volunteerism is a sincere act from the heart, reflecting a true generosity of the spirit. Volunteering is not asking; it is giving. The sense of worth and purpose generated by volunteering are the priceless gifts received by those who donate their time, energy, skills and talents.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation--matching people 55 and older (click here if you are under 55) with community needs. RSVP volunteers choose how and where they want to serve and how many hours they serve. Using their skills, talents and life experience, RSVP volunteers tutor children, help renovate homes, teach English to immigrants, organize neighborhood watch programs, support staff in hospitals and much more.

In addition to helping others, RSVP members also gain certain real benefits for their volunteer service:

  • Personal satisfaction
  • New and lasting friendships
  • Structure and activity to balance leisure time
  • Membership in an organization that is part of a growing movement

For more information about how you can join the dedicated RSVP volunteers in your community please call the Director of RSVP at (908) 354-3040, x369 or send an e-mail to .
