Trainings Offered At CAU

Community Access Unlimited has over 35 years experience in training its staff in providing high quality supports for people with developmental disabilities and at-risk youth.

Since 1991, CAU has trained direct support professionals to provide quality services to individuals that have unique medical, psychological, emotional, and physical needs.  Each training is tailored to provide comprehensive instruction to new and seasoned caregivers.


American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Training Open to the Public!

CAU is proud to offer American Red Cross CPR and First Aid (HSSSFA401) to any individual in need of this training.  This training is perfect for caretakers, family members, coaches, teachers, volunteers, and company employees who are looking to contribute to a safe environment and will be prepared in case of an emergency.

Trainings are offered accordingly:
Tuesday from 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM & Thursdays from 12:30 PM – 5:30 PM
at the CAU Main Office at 80 West Grand St. Elizabeth, NJ 07202

Trainings are $50 per person and must be reserved and paid for in advance of the class.  Cancellations with at least 24 hours notice will result in a full refund.

Group Trainings
If you have an interested group of 4 individuals or more, CAU trainers can travel to your organization or business! For more information and pricing options, please contact Theresa Kolas at 908-354-3040 x4237 or tkolas@caunj.org.  For all group classes, organizations must complete a Memorandum of Understanding.  This must be signed and returned before participants are officially registered for the group training class. 


Pre-Service Trainings:

CAU facilitates each of the following state mandated trainings through the College of Direct Support (CDS) including:

  • Shifting Expectations (formerly Overview of Developmental Disabilities)
  • Preventing Abuse & Neglect
  • Medication

These trainings plus American Red Cross CPR & First Aid make up the five pre-service trainings required for direct support professionals working with individuals with various needs. Trainings are offered:

Shifting Expectations
Mondays from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM*

Preventing Abuse & Neglect
Mondays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM*

Medication
Tuesdays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

*for those weeks that have a Monday holiday, trainings will be held on the Tuesday of that week

All trainings are facilitated at the CAU Main Office at 80 West Grand St. Elizabeth, NJ 07202 for a fee of $50 per class for each individual. Interested DSP’s may take advantage of a package deal for trainings and pay $100 to take Preventing Abuse & Neglect, Shifting Expectations and Danielle’s Law training.

Individuals taking these pre-service trainings must be employed by an agency approved by the Division of Developmental Disabilities and be pre-registered with the CDS prior to training.

Individuals taking the training must be registered and must pay in advance. Cancellations with at least 24 hours notice will result in a full refund available up to 7 days after the scheduled class. Organizations sending employees must complete a Memorandum of Understanding.  This must be signed and returned before participants are officially registered for the group training class.
