Assistive Technology (AT) can help make daily life more accessible. It can help people with disabilities care for themselves more easily and help families care for and support a member with a disability.
Within the DDD Supports Program, assistive technology is defined two ways, by a product or service. It may include an item, piece of equipment, or product system whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of members. As a service, assistive technology would include a service that directly assists a participant in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device. The services and products can help members in their daily lives whether its utilized in the classroom, workplace, or at home or in the community.
This could include:
- Evaluations of assistive technology needs
- Purchasing, leasing, or acquisition of assistive technology
- Designing, fitting, or customizing of a device
- Repairing or replacing a device
- Ongoing maintenance fees
- Training or technical assistance
CAU has developed relationships with several reputable suppliers of assistive technology products and will aid in the completion of an evaluation to determine eligibility and select the correct mode of assistive technology. This may include completing an evaluation to determine the needs of the individual and then working alongside the assistive technology product provider to ensure the proper devices are supplied to our members.
